LEURA

Located on a rare riverfront block in Hawthorne, Leura enjoys a prized western aspect with uninterrupted views toward the Brisbane CBD. The site was occupied by an existing residence constructed in the late 1980s, well-positioned and structurally sound, yet dated in its architectural expression.

The brief was to transform the home into something contemporary and refined, while retaining as much of the original structure as possible. The aim was to preserve the embedded value in the existing built form, while reimagining the residence to suit modern living and take full advantage of its outlook and location.

Our response was a balanced act of renewal and restraint. Rather than demolish and rebuild, we preserved the existing structural envelope and introduced a new architectural wing at the front of the site. This addition creates a defined forecourt and a stronger sense of arrival, shifting the home’s presence on the site and better connecting it to the street and river axis.

Internally, the house was reconfigured and elevated into a new era. In collaboration with Collectivus, the interiors were designed to celebrate light, volume, and texture creating a calm, layered environment with strong visual and spatial connections to the river beyond.

Leura stands as a thoughtful evolution where architecture, context, and heritage come together to form something quietly confident and enduring.
